Goober story

Goober was a Thanksgiving pregnancy. She wasn't due until the very end of August. I got to enjoy a very decent summer while I was pregnant with her. It wasn't too hot and we had just installed a heat pump in our house so we had air conditioning. Very very nice. Goober wasn't a big mover at all and there were several times where I would lay a cold towel on one side of my stomach to make sure she would move. There was one time, early on, when I was spotting and I was terrified. I knew that she would be my last baby that I would carry, so I wanted everything to be perfect and she was being stubborn.

About the middle of August 2006 I went to my weekly OB appointment on Monday where they did an ultrasound and discovered that I didn't have a whole lot a fluid around the baby. I was then sent up to the hospital for a stress test to make sure that Goober was okay. They strapped a heart monitor around my belly and gave me a push button. Every time I felt movement I was to push that button. Let me tell you, that stubborn little baby hadn't moved worth crap all week but in this hour long test she was just rolling all over the place. The doctors told me that the heart and stress test came out fine but that she wanted to see me on that Wednesday. The next day we received the news that a good friend's mother's funeral was to be on that Friday. We talked to the doctor on that Wednesday and asked if I would be able to attend the funeral, No, I was told because the 5 hour round trip drive would be to much. She released me to go to work the next day and okayed me for the following week as well. I only had the next week to complete than I was on maternity leave.

Hubby and I agreed that it would be good for him to attend the funeral and for him to give everyone my love. I sat at home after being admonished by Hubby that I was NOT to go into labor. My MIL and FIL had just left for their much anticipated vacation to Whistler BC (a 9 hour drive away) Before they left, they told me I was not to go into labor. So I rested all day on Friday. I sat in front of the TV and only moved to make Bug food. At about 10pm on Friday. I layed down next to Bug in my bed and rolled over to kiss her goodnight when, yep, my water broke. I yelled for my SIL. "My water just broke." "Are you f*cking serious?" "Yep" So out come the frantic phone calls to Hubby and my MIL/FIL. Hubby finally made it to the hospital about 2 hours later. While MIL/FIL had just made it to the hotel in Whistler, where they instantly turned around to come and see the birth.

The second baby is easy. My labor didn't even start until 3am on Saturday. I was smart this time and took the epidural around 10am. Very handsome man to come and save me. I had him and the nurse just cracking up as I was telling him he had very gentle sexy hands. My doctor came in and told me that she had to leave for a couple hours and that she would be back and that I wasn't close to giving birth yet. She lied. I gave birth to Goober 2 1/2 hours later. It was so easy, true I had the epidural, but compared to Bug, it was smooth. She was two weeks early and weighed almost the same as Bug, who had been a half hour late. She had beautiful chocolate brown eyes that she still has and this dark brown spiky hair, that has gradually gone blonde. My girls are so beautiful.
